Rules
The annual horseshoe hunt takes place every year preceding Dan Patch Days. A horseshoe is hidden somewhere within the city of Savage, on public property. Clues are available on the Dan Patch Historical Society's website and at the Savage Library. The annual horseshoe hunt has taken place since 1996 and has always been sponsored by the Dan Patch Historical Society.
Rules
1. Clues are given out each week that lead to the location of a special horseshoe hidden
somewhere on "public property" within the City of Savage boundaries.
2. Whoever finds the horseshoe and has a 2024 Dan Patch Days button wins $100.
3. The lucky winner also gets to keep the commemorative horseshoe.
2024 Dan Patch Days buttons are available at Savage City Hall and the Savage Library, and Dan Patch Historical Society board members.
Each Friday, clues for the horseshoe hunt will be available here by 9 p.m. on this web site (www.danpatch.com). This is the only place the clues will be available online. Clues will also be available at the Savage Library.
To maintain the interest and integrity of the horseshoe hunt, the following members, spouses and minor children are NOT eligible to participate in the hunt: Dan Patch Historical Society board members and Dan Patch Days Inc. committee members. Also, there will not be any back-to-back winners.

Clue #1
Spring rains it seems, cause swollen streams.
Grounds saturate, can't evacuate.
Patch's shoe gets stuck in the muck!
Please aid from Dan's bind, form teams to find.
Clue #2
Aside the river, our settlers fished.
Southeast up river, with luck you'll be kissed!
Clue #3
One hundred and twenty years ago, we went by a different name.
With directions you know, you're a star I exclaim!
Clue #4
With ivy, oak & vines all around, your options would appear to abound.
You should look down, perhaps below ground, 'tis there Dan's shoe is found.
Clue #5 (if necessary)
In this Hollywood Walk of fame, amid butterflies near cattails, there are pollinators galore.
You've reached the end of your travails, with shoe dash there's some cash in store.

Explanations of the Clues
Clue #1
"streams" & "saturate" refer to water, where the shoe is hidden nearby.
"grounds" & "muck" refers to the shoe being partially buried
Clue #2
River Side Stock Farm and Marge J.Fish occupied plots near Hollywood Park in the 1898 Glendale plate.
River also draws you to areas of the Minnesota River or the Credit River.
South of the Minnesota River and east of the Credit is Hollywood Park
Clue #3
Our previous city name was Hamilton, Hollywood park is within this old district, see the 1898 Glendale Plat.
"Direct" and "star" are familiar terms in Hollywood CA
Clue #4
Ivy Lane (now Monterey Ave), Oak Street (now Natchez Ave) and lower and upper Vine Street (Ottawa and 129th St. respectively) were the olde names of streets around Hollywood Park.
"below ground" refers to the shoe being partially buried.
