2011 Clues

CLUE #1
Dan escaped from the barn once more,
And lost a shoe again.
Search high, no low & don't ya know,
It's on public domain.

CLUE #2
So grab a cola - start your search,
Dan's in quite a state.
From a pun'kin patch or a raptor's perch,
Your hunt will end in sate.

CLUE #3
Help can be found from hunters hounds,
Or possibly a map.
Go east and west not north or south,
You'll find it in a snap.

CLUE #4
In this Irish park
Where ball is play'd, A beacon signals the way.
'Tis green and big,
No need to dig, An there the shoe doth lay.

Explanations of the clues

Clue # 1
The barn refers to the old Boudin one on Louisiana avenue (one of very few remaining in Savage) which can be seen from where the shoe was hidden.

The rest of the clue refers to the rules that the shoe is hidden on public property, that no digging is needed, and hidden at normal height or on the ground.

Clue # 2

There is alot revealed here to the discerning horse shoe hunter. Cola - refers to the traditional history that the McCann's descended from Cola-da-Chrioch, the first king of Oriel, who conquered Ulster where many McCann's settled.

State refers to the nearby streets of Maryland Avenue, Utah place, Virginia, & Louisiana Avenue, which takes you right to the park.

The pumpkin patch refers to the antique shop on old McDonald's farm that was located just south of the park.

Raptors perch refers to Kestrel Trail just north of the park.

Clue # 3

Hunters refers to the street just north from the park. A city map is a must for any serious horse shoe hunter.
East & west refers to South Park Drive that runs that direction and where the
entrance to the park is located.
Snap refers to Snap Fitness center across from the park.

Clue # 4

McCann is Irish and within the park there are two baseball fields.
Between the fields is a big green storage locker made by Beacon. The shoe was hidden underneath it.

The Dan Patch Historical Society hopes you had fun searching and learning about our history and enjoying our great city parks!
